Congratulations – 42 NEW animal response team volunteers completed the pilot boot camp training weekend and are ready for deployment. Thank you for your dedication to animals in times of disaster!
JULY 23-24, 2016 CLASS IS FULL!
Check back in February for details on this course being offered March 4-5, 2017 across the state of Kansas.
PETS are the #1 reason people will not evacuate in a disaster!
The goal is to encourage families to evacuate with their pets in a safe and timely manner, by educating people about temporary Animal Response Team sheltering. With their pets safe, the family can stay in shelters provided by the Red Cross and focus on the next steps to finding more permanent housing for their family and pets. To provide temporary animal sheltering and care for pets displaced in a disaster, trained animal response team volunteers are needed! This new weekend training program will help facilitate a quick and efficient training curriculum for groups of new volunteers. The first day of this pilot program will be hosted at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Wichita and courses will be taught by Sedgwick county emergency management instructors. The second day will be hosted at the Kansas Humane Society and include training such as human first aid, pet first aid and more.
