Dr. Erin Petro, DVM

Dr. Erin Petro is the State Public Health Veterinarian at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, where she takes a One Health approach in the surveillance, prevention, and control of rabies, zoonotic diseases and concerns that span the human and animal healthcare industries.  In this role, she develops and presents training and educational content for local health departments, animal control, healthcare providers, and others.  Dr. Petro has a diverse public health and veterinary background including at the local health department level and government service, and she currently serves as a Public Health Officer in the Minnesota Air National Guard.  Previous to joining KDHE, Dr. Petro was in mixed animal practice in rural southeast Minnesota and small animal practice in Kansas.  In her free time, Dr. Petro enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, and enjoying great coffee.
